Symica IC Design Flow

Design flow

Symica provides a suite of EDA tools for schematic entry, SPICE simulation, mixed-signal simulation, simulation result analyzing and layout drawing. All Symica tools are integrated into and can be run from Symica Design Environment, except SymLayout, which is working as a separate application. Symica Design Environment also integrates additional modules required for circuit design: Library manager, Schematic editor, Symbol editor, Hierarchy editor, Simulation environment, input/output translators, etc.

The design structure in Symica corresponds to industry standard and consists of libraries, cells and views. Symica supports all commonly used views such as: symbols, schematics, Verilog HDL and Verilog-A descriptions and SPICE netlists.

The structure of Symica project

Symica DE has a full set of 'must-have' features required for efficient IC design. The recognizable user friendly GUI allows easy drawing of any complex circuit including mixed-mode projects, multi-voltage projects, etc.

Once the project has been created the designer adjusts 'states' (simulation options) in the “Simulation Environment” dialog. These 'states' include the model files, simulation analysis, markers to be plotted or saved, and any additional simulation requirements. Before running the simulation a project netlist is created, then the analog and/or digital simulator starts depending on the chosen simulation mode.

Simulation options in “Simulation Environment”

In order to visualize and analyze simulation results Symica offers an analog waveform post-processor SymProbe, which has got a full set of visualization options as well as a built-in analog waveform calculator supporting more than 50 functions. The original data structure of SymProbe allows fast waveform redrawing and zooming.
